Inverness Village was created with sustainability as a design goal.

Inverness Village has been named the 2011 Recycling Community of the Year by Tulsa’s Metropolitan Environmental Trust. Our commitment to the environment began at the outset, when the community’s founding resident-members decided to make sustainability one of their design goals.

Community efforts include two recycling rooms on each floor of Inverness Village’s residences and curbside recycling pick-up for its Cottages. In the last month alone, we collected 7,000 pounds of recyclable materials, including electronic devices. Further, all cleaning solutions and chemicals used at the community are certified green by the Environmental Protection Agency. At monthly Town Hall meetings residents and associates spearhead sustainability programs such as one where residents recycle used clothing and fabrics into blankets and pillows for community organizations. And Inverness’s ongoing partnership with the Nature Conservancy has included educational programs on pond management and wildlife care and identification.

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, the Metropolitan Environmental Trust  presented our award at its annual America Recycles Day banquet at the Hyatt Regency. We’re proud to be recognized for our commitment to make Tulsa a greener place, and eager to grow our environmental efforts in the future.
